History at The Squirrels
The Squirrels was long known locally as a pub in Winkfield—an inter-war, mock-Tudor building in a part of Berkshire shaped by green space and the seasonal pull of Ascot.
Over time, it fell into disuse and became increasingly dilapidated, with the structure ultimately unsafe. In June 2024, the old building was demolished, closing that chapter of the site’s life. The new structure rises on the same footprint, retaining the scale and presence of what stood here before.
The name remains as a trace of what stood here.
