History at The Snug

The Snug sits on Lower Rock Gardens, within Brighton’s East Cliff Conservation Area. The gardens belong to the city’s great early-nineteenth-century expansion, formed during the building boom that reshaped Brighton between 1810 and 1850, when the town’s Regency growth pressed eastward toward Marine Parade. This edge of the city—once part of the “Little Laine” area- was developed with the idea of retreat in mind: proximity to the sea, tempered by green space and a slower, walkable rhythm.

The Snug takes its name from that tradition of refuge. It is a compact stay designed to feel held, offering stillness at the threshold of the city: close enough to step into Brighton’s energy, quiet enough to return and let the pace fall away.
