I am an oil painter from Arkansas drawn to the beauty of home, slow living, and the character of lived in spaces. I paint interior and exterior oil portraits of the home. As a Christian, my faith informs my work. I am inspired by light, both the way it transforms a space and the hope it symbolizes. My prayer is that my paintings encourage others to find beauty in the ordinary and, ultimately, point to the One who is the source of all beauty.
This fall, I will relocate to Birmingham, Alabama with my sweet husband of two years, Noah. Beyond the studio, I find joy in gathering around a table for a shared meal, sunlit spaces, lattes made with whole milk, natural fiber clothing, handmade pottery, and well loved gold jewelry.
I work primarily with oil paint on canvas. Each painting begins with a reference image that I transfer using a grid method to establish accurate proportions and composition. From there, I build an underpainting and a loose sketch before gradually developing the piece, working from the background to the foreground and from dark values to light. This process takes time, as I enjoy slowly building up the colors and texture over a course of weeks.
My palette is intentionally limited, typically consisting of only four or five colors, with a focus on warm earth tones. This restraint allows me to create harmony throughout each painting. My hope is that each finished work evokes a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and comfort.
“I believe the home is one of the most sacred places we experience. My work is an invitation to slow down and see the beauty that has been there all along, if we only have the eyes to see it.”
