Lê Phạm is a Russian-born Vietnamese British artist whose practice explores the afterlife of everyday moments as they are carried, altered, and reshaped over time.
Her work centres on small, familiar moments—shared meals, conversations with loved ones, solitary walks, and quiet routines—revisited through painting as a way of holding onto what might otherwise fade, drawing on Georges Perec’s concept of the “infraordinary,” where the overlooked details of daily life quietly accumulate meaning. Some works reconstruct fragments of photographs intertwined with partial memories, while others emerge from stories retold in conversation—where details shift, blur, or become embellished, reflecting the fluid and unstable nature of recollection.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, she also paints on found objects and furniture, extending her practice into surfaces already shaped by use and time. Across both formats, her works are not intended as dominant focal points, but as quieter presences—existing at the edges of attention, like memories themselves. They often inhabit corners, shelves, and lived environments, acting as subtle anchors that invite a slower mode of looking, and a return to the fleeting, often overlooked moments that shape how we remember and relate.
Materials: primarily acrylic on canvas or found objects
“‘I love painting because no other activity can command as much focus and calm within me, which is such a nice state to be in. And perhaps that’s why the outcome always manages to articulate my thoughts and ideas in a way that no words or any other medium ever can.”
