- Anastasiia Honcharenko
Anastasiia Honcharenko is a Ukrainian-born artist based in Germany, whose creative journey has evolved with a deep focus on her surroundings and the moments she captures. Born into a multi-generational artistic family in Kharkiv, Ukraine, she was drawn early to painting, nature, and visual culture by the legacy of her great-grandfather, a well-known Ukrainian artist. After completing intensive studies in design and painting at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, and returning to her practice after a multi-year break, Anastasiia has now dedicated herself to capturing the essence of everyday beauty. She is immersing herself in her local environment, using it as both inspiration and a way to refine her technique. Her work is an ongoing exploration of the land she now calls home, and she hopes to share that connection with others through her art.
Anastasiia Honcharenko’s process is rooted in direct engagement with her environment, blending impressionistic elements with a realistic perception. Her development was profoundly shaped by her mentor, Hryhorii Yefimenko, from whom she inherited a precise sense of colour, light, and composition. Drawing inspiration from masters like Claude Monet, Ivan Aivazovsky, and particularly Archip Kuinji’s handling of light, her work explores nature, architecture, shadows, and shifting lighting moods. She particularly enjoys working outdoors, creating plein air paintings to capture a special moment on-site and preserve its memory and visual impression.
Working primarily through painting, Anastasiia builds each piece with a deep focus on mood, light, and atmosphere, creating an immersive visual experience rather than a purely observational one. Her paintings are not only records of place, but moments of escape. Spaces where the viewer can pause, enter the landscape, and feel present.
The result is expressive yet grounded: art shaped by the natural world and charged with the artist’s response to it,, primarily in oil paint and watercolours.
“Painting is not only a way for me to make beauty visible, but also a way to preserve memories and capture small pieces of our time and life.”
